Wank is a mountain overlooking the great panorama of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the highest German mountain of Zugspitze. It also provides hiking trails with some of the best views in the Alps.

We had luck to hike this mountain on clear and sunny day. We started at the Wankbahn Talstation that's in 700 meters above the sea. You can park your car there without any parking fees. Once you are there, locate the hiking map and the 'Wank' sign on the left side of the parking lot (facing the mountain). Once you are there, start hiking up (to 1760 meters above the sea). The trail is hard so make sure to wear proper hiking shoes and have good clothing as once you reach the top, you will be wet from the sweat and it can get chilly. There are several ways to reach the top, we chose the W5, which provides you with great views of Zugspitze and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It took us 2 3/4 hours to get up. On the half way to the top you reach a beautiful meadow with a small cottage. Once you are up, you have the ability of panoramic view of mountains around the Wank, as well admiring the para gliders. Going down can be a bit confusing and we chose the trail going from the Armeisenberg down. On the half way down, you will see the signs 'Wankbahn Talstation'. Following them, you will reach the parking lot again. Trip down took 2 1/4 hours.
